Hey! I’m Thomas, a student from ETH Zurich, working for Swissloop. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Energy Science and Technology. Alongside my studies, I also referee basketball games and especially work for Swissloop at the Innovation Park in Dübendorf.
Swissloop and European Hyperloop Week
Swissloop is a student-led association that focuses on building a Pod, and the tracks on which it will travel. But what does Pod mean? Swissloop is simply the addition of Swiss and Hyperloop; Hyperloop is a technology, still in research, of a form of transportation. It’s “simply” a small train or Pod that levitates inside a vacuum tube, thanks to magnetic fields, and can reach a speed of around 900 to 1200 km/h. It's an incredible technology that could take you from Zurich to Geneva in just under 11 minutes, with only 30 seconds of acceleration and deceleration. In the Swissloop association, you can either work in the engineering side, thinking and building components, or in the “non-technical” part, in sponsorship, graphic design, communication or event-planning. I chose this last one, simply because I didn’t have the time to work as an engineer as it is near full time! Swissloop is not involved in building the tube itself, but if you are interested about it, you should take a look at EuroTube for example.
