ETH Brings You to Davos #ETHMeetsYou

by Joël Mesot, 9 January 2020

This article is part of a special campaign ETH Ambassadors is running supporting ETH activities at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2020. #ETHMeetsYou

The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos brings together key decision makers and world leaders to discuss the most pressing issues on the global agenda. The gathering is also an opportunity for university leaders to engage with peers and exchange best practices, connect with industry to discuss research transfer, and involve both the general public and other Annual Meeting participants in these important conversations.

For the fourth year running, ETH Zurich will have a presence in Davos with a dedicated space, in addition to my participation in the Meeting as a delegate in my capacity as President of our university. The space is a temporary pavilion showcasing the amazing science and innovation of ETH around a selected theme.

On the Forum’s 50th anniversary, the ETH Zurich pavilion will be working with a theme of is “RETHINKING Creativity”. Creativity is found in every form of human activity and has many shades depending on the cultural and historical context. Today, there is a wide consensus that creativity, combined with critical thinking, is one of the crucial skills for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

At ETH Zurich, we are convinced that offering the right environment can greatly foster creative thinking. This is why we have launched the Student Project House, for example, as a space to experiment and test out new ideas, and why we enhance our curricula with tailored offerings. In Davos, the pavilion will welcome the public and special guests with an exhibit curated around the theme of creativity, showcasing the latest ETH research in robotics, architecture, computer science and beyond.

This year, we would like to share these exciting innovations with you, dear readers. To this end, this platform – the ETH Ambassadors Blog – will feature stories relating to the content of the exhibits in Davos during the Annual Meeting. But we will also use it to share some of the other interesting, current, and headline-worthy stories coming out of ETH.

We value your feedback on this endeavour and invite you to spread the word by sharing any content you particularly enjoy on your social media channels. We will be doing so on our side, and we hope to see you in Davos!
